The
Nature
Heart
Nestled in the heart of the Corbières Maritimes the Castle of Lastours is much more than just a winery, it is a sanctuary of biodiversity, where the nature is at the centre of all our concerns. The respect of biodiversity is at the heart of our approach. We have created points of water and wetlands to promote the local fauna, while planting of hedges and groves, which serve as ecological corridors. Our fallow unmowed and our hives are testimony of our commitment to support the pollinators and to maintain a balanced ecosystem. Waste management is also a priority for us. We have put in place a sort of selective rigorous and believe in recycling, using reusable bottles to reduce our ecological footprint. Finally, we are mindful of our energy consumption. Thanks to a proactive search for leaks and monitoring of our water consumption, fuel oil and electricity, we work to a significant reduction of our environmental impact. We have also reduced the weight of our bottles and use cardboard recycled for our shipments. The Castle of Lastours, we firmly believe that the wine can go with respect for the environment. Each sip of our wines is a reflection of our commitment to nature, and our passion for a sustainable future. Overall, growing a world where man and nature coexist in harmony.

The
vine,
our
expertise
Since 2017, we have made the choice of organic Farming, and our wines are certified from the vintage 2020. This commitment to viticultural practices in a sustainable way is a reflection of our desire to preserve the environment while producing exceptional wines. We adopt appropriate viticultural practices ecological who respect and value our soil. The well-planned irrigation, using water from rain, we can manage this precious resource wisely. In the winter, we encourage the use of natural grass, avoiding the use of herbicides and enriching our soil by organic amendments. In addition, we practice a work of the ground in alternating rows, which contributes to the health of our vines, while preserving the structure of the soil.

Preserve resources, and to anticipate the challenges of climate change
Project
agroforestry
Today, Château de Lastours is putting in place an innovative pilot project to preserve its resources, and to anticipate the challenges of climate change. On a dedicated area of 6 hectares in the heart of the vineyard, we've re-engineered the implementation of the vines in combining agro-forestry, and hydrology regenerative. Our ambition is to take advantage of the natural strengths of the soil, composed of clay-limestone soils, and enjoying the marine influence. In a context of water stress increasing, our field is putting in place practical solutions to retain water and to preserve biodiversity. Among the flagship initiatives of this new area of research and development :
1200 trees to limit the evaporation
The plantation of 1200 agroforestry trees to limit the evaporation, promote the infiltration of the water and create zones of condensation
Reduction of the plots and keyline
Encourage the retention of water by reducing the size of the plots and optimizing the implementation of the vines in the contour (keyline)
Enrich the soil
Enrich the soil with organic materials to strengthen their capacity water.
Selection of grape varieties, innovative
To study and to select rootstocks and varieties, as, for example, varieties and innovative as the Verdero and the vines Bouquet.
